Why A Leader Must Be Ready To SEIZE The Moment?

After, over four decades, of involvement, in, nearly, everything, involved with and related to, effectively leading, from identifying and qualifying, to training, developing and consulting to thousands of actual, and/ or, potential leaders, as well as, personally, serving, as a real leader, various times, I feel strongly, one must be ready, willing, able, and prepared, for opportunities, and capable, to SEIZE the moment, and avoid any tendency towards procrastination, etc, or proceeding, accepting, the same – old, same – old, because, he refuses to expand the limitations of his self – imposed, personal comfort zone! With, that in mind, this article will attempt to consider, review, examine, and discuss, using the mnemonic approach, what this means and represents, and why it matters.

1. Strategy; service; solutions; system; strengths/ stronger: Quality, effective leading, rarely, just – happens, but, comes, as a result of a well – considered, and developed, strategy, and creating/ developing, the finest, strategic plan, moving forward! A real leader must emphasize, service and representation, and, thus, creating a system, which effectively, identifies, and uses strengths, in order to create, a stronger organization!

2. Empathy; emphasis; efforts: Since, no one has, either, all the answers, nor, even, knows all the relevant questions, great leaders must effectively, listen, and learn, from every conversation, and experience, to become better, and proceed, with genuine empathy! He must prioritize these perceptions, needs, and wishes, and place, much of his emphasis, accordingly! Only, then, will his efforts, create the most desirable results, etc!

3. Integrity; imagination; inspire; ideas; ideals/ ideology: Unless/ until, one proceeds with absolute integrity, and his stakeholders, perceive it, as – such, why would they follow him, in a timely way, so the finest opportunities, can be taken advantage of? This requires a well – developed, relevant imagination, and a desire to inspire others, with his ideas, and plans, instead of, merely, empty rhetoric, promises, and the same – old, same – old! A great leader’s ideals must align, directly, with the core ideology of the specific group, and its stakeholders!

4. Zest; zero – based: While, one’s zest – for – life, personal energy, and enthusiasm, attract others, it will only make a difference, for the better, when one, proceeds, in a realistic way, and considers, economic realities, etc. I believe, we must train future leaders, in the need for, and advantages, of using, zero – based, budgets, as effectively, as possible!

5. Excellence; endurance: Good – enough, simply, is not! We must demand, a leader, proceeds, with his utmost degree of personal excellence, consistently! In addition, only, when one has the endurance, and persistence, to move – forward, when the rest – of – the – pack, will not, will someone, be ready, to seize the moment, properly, etc!

If you want to lead, will you be ready, to SEIZE the moment? Are you, up to the tasks and responsibilities, etc?
